New year/New jewelry

Posted on Updated on

WOW, it has been a long time since I have updated my blog, how things have changed! Last year I was determined to make the jewelry I created more cohesive with my business name and aesthetic.  I wanted Sunshine On Water to be a cohesive look with a sense of calmness brought about by a nature inspired vibe… as if you were walking along the beach on a warm day with the wind in your hair…

While this journey took a few months and combined work updating photos, redesigning my booth display and new jewelry… the later is what I will give attention to in this post. Don’t worry, I will include my booth revamp in  an upcoming post!

As for new jewelry, my one goal was and is to create jewelry you can connect to, whether through a letter of the alphabet or a shape in nature! Connections… you can carry them with you through my jewelry and I hope you will! To see more of my new sterling silver and rose gold jewelry line for 2017, visit my etsy shop, Sunshine On Water!

It’s the end of January already, Valentine’s Day is less than a month away!  These earrings are an awesome gift and they’re on my etsy shop right now!! Inspired by those awesome little sweetheart candies… these are hand-stamped copper earrings!

The copper is hammered and domed to create a three-dimensional effect then carefully stamped with my fabulous vintage letter stamps…Stamping requires concentration and I will admit is tedious to do since I stamp each letter individually…  but the result is this amazing pair of copper earrings!  Find these sweethearts on my etsy shop (Sunshine On Water) here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/SunshineOnWater

Cheers!!!

New Jewelry for Summer 2015

So many new pieces of jewelry made and added to the collection for summer 2015!  The top row includes earrings of domed copper that have been hammered and carefully stamped with “Love Ya”. Next is a pair of mixed metal earrings, this combination has been quite popular at craft shows!  In these earrings, the top circle is sterling silver while the bottom is copper, both circle are hammered to reflect the light!

In the second row you find a hand-cut hammered copper heart on a snake chain as well as a hand-formed sterling silver Treble Clef necklace on a sterling silver chain.  Each of these pieces would make a fabulous graduation gift this season!

If supporting small, local business is important to you, take heart that all of my jewelry is made in the USA, Upstate New York specifically by myself- Betsy Murray!

You can find the top earrings as well as the Treble Clef on my etsy shop~ Sunshine On Water

If you would like the Copper Heart just send a comment and we can chat about getting you this beautiful necklace!

I hope everyone has a wonderful day….

Handmade Copper and Silver

New Hand formed & hammered triple Copper rings…These earrings are not on etsy yet if you want them let me know!!

This necklace is also new, it’s inspired by the southwest sun since the inner circle appears to radiate in all directions.  I recently visited Ticson, AZ and was amazed at how far you can see in all directions, especially compared to NY state! This Sunkissed Twist necklace is great for warm summer days. You can find this necklace on my etsy shop, Sunshine On Water!!!
Keep handmade and Made in USA in mind this season as you are thinking of graduation or birthday gifts!

New Year New Shows

As I sit here wondering how to get more people to see my hand-made work, I then think “I should really be MAKING more jewelry”!  Sometimes I wonder how, what, why I do this?? There is that constant struggle between being a stay-at-home-mom and creating art and jewelry to sell!  There is only so much time in the day, sometimes it seems like I have a lot of time but then it’s 9pm and I am just “getting to work”.

The balance between creating and selling hand-made wavers between me being the maker and marketer of my work!  I truly do love making but often marketing is where the seesaw hits the dirt for me!  Facebook used to be great for exposure but lately it seems less people see the posts and photos I add to my Business page, Sunshine On Water.  A few years ago that was not the case because everyone who had “liked” my page had access to a post if they happened to be on FB at the time.  Oh, so nice!!  Now it seems anyone who has “liked” my business page much hover over my page, then scroll down and click on “Get Notifications”  in order to see any new posts I add…therefore the reach is much smaller hence less people see my latest jewelry.  Ok, I just explained what to do but yes, this does involve a little work!

There is that option, of course, for business pages to pay for “boosts”, I haven’t done this but I do wonder how well it works?

Now it’s time to stop thinking and start doing… making jewelry that is. I have my first show of the year this coming Saturday and I am really looking forward to it!  If you’re in the Rochester, NY area and free on Saturday, come on over to Schroeder High School in Webster for Community Arts Day! It’s a fun event showcasing the many talents in Webster from Elementary School art students to hand-made artists in the community, like me!  This will be my 4th year at this event and it’s always a lot of fun!! Sharing my creations with others in the community is what it’s all about!

Below is all the info you need on Webster Community Arts Day… I hope to see you there!
